Strategies Review: The One Player The Chief is focusing on protecting Mahomes

With the NFL Draft quickly approaching, every team will be honing their lists in preparation for their first-choice picks.

Teams have had more time to study their key rookies, but this time is running out.

With the Top 30 visits and Pro Days coming to an end, it appears that they will be gathering in Detroit in the coming days.

In order to put themselves in the best possible position before the NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs have been working hard during the offseason.

Additionally, Brett Veach has buckled down and let go of important defensive linemen.

Chiefs add offensive weapons while firing key defensive players

On new contracts, Chris Jones and Mike Danna rejoin Steve Spagnuolo’s defensive line.

Marquise Brown has been signed to a one-year contract in order to provide offensive firepower for Patrick Mahomes in the passing game.

However, Veach can do his magic once again in the draft, where he has demonstrated his abilities.

After winning the Super Bowl, the Chiefs were able to retain their core group of players, but one position appears to be quite vulnerable.

Experts from the NFL advise the Chiefs to select an “unproven commodity” in the draft.

Before the Chiefs left the draft, Chris Simms and Mike Florio talked about the position they needed to address.

Simms answered the topic on Pro Football Talk by saying, “Clearly, that is an offensive tackle; obviously, one is one.” Right tackle, who is currently the best player in the sport, is a completely untested commodity over there.

At this moment, it appears as though Patrick Mahomes’ blindside is very exposed because starting left tackle Donovan Smith is about to enter free agency.

Wanya Morris, despite his lack of experience, continues to be the Chiefs’ best choice.

Morris, a 2023 third-round selection, started four games in a row from Week 14 to Week 17.

Patrick Mahomes’ starting left tackle will be Wanya Morris.

The tackle has received plaudits from Andy Reid, and it appears that he will have his first opportunity to start.

Nevertheless, the Chiefs will need a fallback strategy if this doesn’t work out.

That’s why selecting a rookie left tackle in the draft could be a smart move. They may have a starting pitcher of the highest caliber for many years to come if Veach resolves the problem in the first round.

They must provide Mahomes with the strongest defense possible, particularly on his weak side.

The question of whether the Chiefs will select a left tackle or wide receiver with the 32nd pick has been discussed.

Since the two-time MVP has shown he can win titles even with a thin receiving group, left tackle appears to be the starting position.
