Yankees-Red Sox set for a doubleheader on Tuesday after rainout
BOSTON – The Yankees and Red Sox will try for a double dip on Tuesday.
Monday’s game at Fenway Park was postponed by heavy rain showers, with a split doubleheader now scheduled for Tuesday beginning at 1:35 p.m.
More storms are in the forecast for Wednesday before the four-game series wraps up on Thursday.
Randy Vasquez is set to start Game 1 on Tuesday while Carlos Rodon will pitch Game 2.
Clarke Schmidt, who was scheduled to start Monday’s series opener, has been bumped to Wednesday, weather permitting.
“Just wanted to keep Rodon on schedule,” manager Aaron Boone said. “Want to keep Vasquez and [Jhony] Brito in line for Saturday, so going them tomorrow. And it allows us to give Clarke an extra day, just considering where he is in the season too.”
Schmidt has already thrown a career-high 140 ⅔ innings this season.
Before the schedule change, the Yankees were going to have to fill Luis Severino’s rotation spot on Wednesday and were likely going to look to Vasquez or Brito, both of whom have pitched out of the bullpen lately.
