Following a 119 mph car crash in Dallas, Rashee Rice, the star of the Chiefs and Super Bowl winner, is ‘expected to be given a MULTI-GAME suspension by the NFL.’ He is currently facing eight charges.
Following his 119 mph car crash in Dallas, which has resulted in eight charges against him, Rashee Rice of the Kansas City Chiefs is expected to receive a multi-game suspension from the NFL.
The Super Bowl winner surrendered to police earlier this month after he and another driver of a speeding sports car allegedly caused a crash involving a half-dozen vehicles on a Dallas highway in March.
Rice, 24, is facing one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury.
But, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the wide receiver is also facing disciplinary action from the NFL and the prospect of a lengthy ban is looming over the Chiefs.
Rice could be handed a ‘multi-game suspension’, according to Schefter, and that may prompt the Chiefs to select a wider receiver in the NFL Draft later this week.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid and general manager Brett Veach own the No. 32 pick going into this week’s draft and need to improve their offensive options.
The Chiefs’ 38 drops last season was the highest in the NFL and, having already signed free agent Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown, they are expected to add more depth at receiver.
Rice’s role in Reid’s offense grew as last season went on and, alongside Travis Kelce, became one of Patrick Mahomes’ most trusted targets down the stretch.
But his pending legal issues after the car crash in Dallas may mean he misses the opening weeks of next season.
‘I think much like any position, we’re always looking to get better,’ Veach said.
‘We put a high priority on the depth in our roster, so we´ll attack that much like we do all positions and try to get the very best players we can.’
Given the Chiefs are due to pick last in the first round, it helps their cause that wide receiver is among the deepest positions in the draft. Three are expected to go in the top 10 and six or more could go before the first night has concluded.
The other priority for Kansas City is left tackle, where Donovan Smith hit free agency and the position largely remains vacant. Other positions where the Chiefs could add some depth including running back, tight end and defensive back.
