The runners-up from the 2018 World Cup take on Latvia on Saturday and Armenia on Tuesday in their most recent round of qualifying for the European Championship. According to the FIFA World Rankings, two teams are ranked 132nd and 95th, respectively.
Because of this, Zlatko Dalic can afford to position his team for attack with very little resistance.
Dalic clearly believes that Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol’s superior athleticism would be more effective against two teams that are expected to line up in a low block, despite the fact that Borna Barisic of Rangers is a fantastic ball crosser and set-piece deliverer.
Rangers’ Borna Barisic is out of the Croatian squad again
Dalic tells Danas of Gvardiol that he plays left-back at Manchester City. He enhances the quality of the attack. He’ll play that position (left-back) in the following two games.
Going forward (in prior internationals), neither Borna Sosa of Ajax nor Barisic gave me what I desired. We will need to attack more rather than be defensive.
Barisic has now been left out of the Croatian team for the second time in a row. That is in spite of the accolades that September bestowed upon him. Two months ago, the veteran Rangers full-back stunned Latvia by scoring five goals and providing an assist.
Ibrox giants hope to keep left-back
Recently, there has also been scrutiny over Barisic’s future at the club level. His current contract expires at the conclusion of the current season, although Rangers are apparently hoping to sign him to a new one in light of rumored interest from teams like AS Roma and Nottingham Forest.
According to Football Scotland, talks have started between the Gers and Barisic’s teams.
