JUST IN: Following her son’s horrific injury, mother of Michigan star offensive lineman Zak Zinter sends a message to the Michigan board with an update on his health.

When the Michigan Wolverines took the field against archrival Ohio State on Saturday, they were not only vying for an undefeated season, a spot in the Big Ten title game, and the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff. The Wolverines were also inspired by injured teammate Zak Zinter as the game progressed into the second half.

The All-American guard suffered a serious leg injury that was described as “gruesome” by several witnesses. In the third quarter, another player was blocked into Zinter’s leg while he was engaged with an Ohio State defensive player. Zinter suffered a broken tibia and fibula as a result of the collision.

Tiffany Zinter, the player’s mother, requested prayers from fans, friends, and supporters via ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

She explained that Zinter had broken both bones in his leg and was being taken to the hospital for surgery. She requested that prayers be directed toward the surgeons and her son’s recovery.

“I want to thank all of the hundreds of fans, family, and friends who have gotten in touch with me. Please know that we will read them when we have time. We are overjoyed with the LOVE.”

Michigan running back Blake Corum scored on a 22-yard touchdown run moments after Zinter’s injury, giving Michigan a 24-17 lead. Corum scored two touchdowns, and Michigan outgained Ohio State on the ground 156-107. Michigan won the game by a score of 30-24.

In addition to Michigan interim coach Sherrone Moore’s well wishes for Zinter’s family, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day reached out to Zinter’s family and expressed his support.
