How does the table look?

At 13 games, Leeds are just shy of being a third of the way through the season, which is typically where the table starts to level itself out to see the outright promotion candidates emerge.

By this point in 2019/20, Leeds were second with two extra points than Farke’s side currently, but perhaps more importantly in the promotion race, top spot was only two points away – Leicester City are currently 14 clear of third.

Leeds are currently projected to pick up just under 78 points this season, which would consign the Whites to finishing outside the top two in every season since the Championship rebranded in 2004.

What has Kieran McKenna said about this?

The team Leeds are likely more focused on chasing this season at Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town, a side Farke has already bested this season in August’s 4-3 win at Portman Road, one of two games the Tractor Boys have dropped points in.

However, despite their healthy nine-point gap to third, the Ipswich boss isn’t even looking at the table yet, as he spoke ahead of this weekend with his mind focused on the immediate job at hand, rather than what is required for promotion.

He spoke via TWTD on the matter:

“I think realistically, come the halfway point in the season, it’s natural. I know where we were at the halfway point last season, so I think the halfway point in the season is a natural point to take stock.

“But then, even having said that, there are lots of teams in the history of the Championship who go on to have a storming second half of the season, and there are teams who’ve been at the top of the Championship who go on to have a very different second half of the season.

“Every manager’s probably different, teams will be looking at it in a different way, but my belief, my experience, is that things can change very, very quickly and it’s not too wise to look too much past your next performance.

“And if you can manage to do that for 46 games, which is an awful lot harder than it probably sounds, it’s a lot of concentration, if you can manage to do that, concentrate and try and find a performance in each one, then you know you’ll be a pretty good team.”
