A ‘possible’ Newcastle United transfer for’massively talented’ Everton midfielder Amadou Onana is…

According to Jacob Whitehead of The Athletic, a deal from Everton to Newcastle United for Amadou Onana is possible.

Newcastle’s head of recruiting Steve Nickson’s lists have previously expressed interest in the player, according to the writer.

Whitehead noted that such interest might be reignited in light of Magpies player Sandro Tonali’s likely lengthy suspension as a result of a betting investigation.

Newcastle utilized Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella as a smokescreen for their pursuit for Tonali in the summer, but price rules out a move for another Italian international, according to Whitehead for The Athletic (24 October).

Fulham’s Joao Palhinha and Everton’s Onana have both previously appeared on head of recruitment Steve Nickson’s lists. Palhinha may be unfeasible, while Onana may be feasible.

The Belgium international is raw but extremely skilled; the disadvantage is the time it may take him to fit into Eddie Howe’s system.

Goodison Park exit?

Onana has impressed in midfield at Goodison Park, with many Toffees fans worrying he will move in the summer, with lots of interest in the Belgian seems to be flowing in.

But he chose to stay in Merseyside, hoping to help the team climb out of its current predicament under Sean Dyche. However, things haven’t gone as planned, with the Toffees currently placed 16th in the Premier League table.

Their troubling form, along with that of high-flying Newcastle, could entice Onana to join the Magpies.

Furthermore, they are playing Champions League football this season and can vastly outspend Everton in terms of available funds, thus Onana’s decision may have already been made.

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle would bid for the midfielder, while the Toffees will do everything in their power to keep him. If they cannot, Dyche will make every effort to obtain the highest feasible compensation given the player’s present career trajectory.
