Sean Dyche took over as manager after Frank Lampard was fired in January.
A wild 2022–23 season summed up the famous quote from former Everton player and England World Cup winner Alan Ball.
Dramatic events during the campaign included the firing of the manager, the absence of board members, protests by the supporters, a Premier League referral to an impartial commission, and, finally, a last-day escape from relegation.
“Let’s put it this way,” says Sean Dyche, the former manager of the Burnley Bulls who took over the Toffees in January. “I probably had one book in me in my previous club for nine and a half years; in my four months here, I probably have three.” Much is happening, and much more is yet to come.”
Giulia Bould of BBC Radio Merseyside was granted exclusive access behind the scenes in the fall of last year to chronicle the inside tale of a tumultuous season.
When Bould thinks back on her expectations, she says, “I thought this would be a club on the up.”
“I thought it was very much going to be a building process of how Frank Lampard, Everton, the board and the fanbase turned it around.”
