Andre Gomes will leave Everton on Friday for Fenerbahce in a deadline-breaking move.
Andre Gomes will leave Everton for Fenerbahce on Friday after the Turkish club approved a transfer, according to Fotomac.
The Turkish news outlet reports on their official website (14 September) that the Portugal international has been given the go-ahead to leave Goodison Park in a deal before Friday’s deadline.
Everton are willing to accept roughly £4.3 million for him to leave, and talks have “intensified” since the Fenerbahce boss approved the transaction.
“Fenerbahce, which will close the transfer season with midfield reinforcements, has accelerated its work for Andre Gomes following coach smail Kartal’s approval,” they said.
“The yellow-dark blue team has increased its contact with Everton for the 30-year-old Portuguese midfielder, with the goal of signing him just hours before the transfer window closes.”
“If the negotiations go smoothly, Andre Gomes will become a Fenerbahce player on Friday.”
It’s all good.
It comes as little surprise to Everton fans that Gomes is departing the club, given that he went on loan a year ago to join Lille and hasn’t worn the blue shirt since.
His return to the club in the summer was expected given his lackluster performance in Ligue 1 last season, but he didn’t appear in pre-season and isn’t in manager Sean Dyche’s plans for the future.
With his current contract slated to end in 2024, this is the club’s last chance to cash in and earn some money from his transfer rather than losing him for free.
Given our current financial condition, it can only be a positive thing for the club to generate some money, and if he’s not going to play, it’s best for everyone if he goes.
With a Friday night deadline, there isn’t much time for things to go through, but all indications are that he will be traveling to Turkey.
