Good Job: Three Michigan Football Players Named Sporting News All-Americans…

The fourth organisation unveiled its All-American squad on Wednesday morning.

According to Sporting News, defensive back Mike Sainristil and offensive lineman Zak Zinter from Michigan were named to the first team of the All-American team.

Mason Graham was a defensive tackle on the second team.

Zinter, an All-American, has a well-known name. According to Walter Camp, FWAA, AP, and now Sporting News, he is a first-team All-American.

Thus far, Mason Graham and Mike Sainristil have both made their first All-American teams.

Mike Sainristil:

• Selected as a first-team All-American by Sporting News and a second-team by Sports Illustrated

The ESPN Midseason All-American received an honourable mention.

• All-Big Ten selection (media, coaches, and second team, 2023; coaches and media, first team, 2023; coaches and media, honourable mention, 2022)

• Won the Skill Player of the Year Awards for both offensive (2021, co-) and defensive (2022).

• Letterman for four years (2019–20–21–22)

• Has played in 60 games over his career, starting 33 (nine on offence, 23 on defence) and serving as a punt returner in addition to wide receiver and defensive back.

• Prior to the 2021 season, he wore jersey number 5 instead of 19, and before the 2022 season began, he wore jersey number 0 instead of 5.

• Despite playing both positions in high school, he started his time at Michigan as an offensive lineman before focusing mostly on defence before the 2022 campaign.

 

Zak Zinter:

• A member of the two offensive lines that won the Joe Moore Award in 2021 and 2022, the first ever back-to-back winners in history

• Awarded two times as Academic All-Big Ten (2021, ’22)

• Three-time selection to the All-Big Ten (first team consensus, 2022–2023; media second team; coaches honourable mention, 2021)

• 2022 second team CSC Academic All-American

• Letterman for three times (2020, 21–22)

• Has started 42 of his 45 games as an offensive lineman, all but one at right guard.

• Finalist for the NFF William V. Campbell Trophy

• Outland Trophy semifinalist and Rotary Lombardi Award

• The Athletic, AP, CBS Sports, ESPN, FWAA, Sporting News, and Sports Illustrated named him an All-American (first team); USA Today named him a second team.

 

Mason Graham:

• The coaches’ first team and the media’s third team were chosen as the All-Big Ten in 2023.

• Joint Freshman Defensive of the Year (2022) awards• Letterman for a year (2022)

• Sporting News named him an All-American (second team)
