Wrexham manager delivers an injury update for Rob Lainton

Rob Lainton will likely spend more time on the sidelines, according to Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson.

This season, Wrexham has played without a goalie. He had a knee ailment and is now healing.

Lainton, 33, has been included on the Racecourse Ground’s roster since last year. The goalkeeper has so far played 145 times for the Welsh team.

According to the Evening Leader, Parkinson has issued the following update on his situation: Rob’s knee is still not healing as quickly as we would have hoped. He is currently not where he needs to be. Rob is having a rough time, but maybe he will return to the practice field soon.

Blow for Wrexham

Lainton has recently had bad luck with injuries, but Wrexham has stood by him. The goalie will be keen to return to full health as soon as possible in an effort to reclaim the number one position.

Mark Howard, Arthur Okonkwo, and Luke McNicholas are the Red Dragons’ current options between the sticks. Since the end of the previous season, both Ben Foster and Rory Watson have left the team.

Lainton left Port Vale to join Wrexham on a temporary loan agreement before having his transfer made permanent shortly after. Six of his nine games during the previous season, when Parkinson’s team was relegated to the National League, were played by him.

The Mancunian began his professional career with Bolton Wanderers, however he never played for the Trotters at the senior level. Later, he played for Bury, Burton Albion, and Cheltenham Town.

The last time Wrexham played, they were routed 5-0 at Stockport County, so they’ll be hungry to avenge that crushing defeat. The following match is at home against Crewe Alexandra.
