Cooper DeJean, a rookie cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles, was questioned by Kay Adams on Wednesday’s Up & Adams Show by FanDuel TV regarding Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark.
The Indiana Fever selected Clark as the first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, and she has already had success selling jerseys and closing other agreements.
She assisted Iowa in winning back-to-back women’s collegiate basketball national titles, but the Hawkeyes fell short against the LSU Tigers in 2023 and the South Carolina Gamecocks in 2024.
She participated in 39 games for the Hawkeyes last season, averaging 31.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 8.9 assists. She made 37.8 percent of her three-pointers and 45.5 percent of her field goals.
DeJean, however, made remarks against her that went viral, claiming that he could:
beat Caitlin Clark in a one-on-one match.
That comment made by Cooper DeJean was really intriguing. The Philadelphia Eagles selected him out of Iowa with the 40th overall choice in the NFL Draft of 2024.
DeJean was not selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, although he very well might have been. After an injury ended his college football season, he was authorized last month to begin football practices ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Cooper DeJean was questioned by Kay Adams regarding remarks he made about Caitlin Clark.
DeJean acknowledged on Adams’s show that he had made remarks directed at her and that they had attended the same university. Cooper DeJean stated:
“Caitlin is undoubtedly a unique athlete; she has contributed greatly to both women’s basketball and the University of Iowa overall.”
They exchange texts, and he later says on the Kay Adams Show that she texted him back with the following message:
“She doesn’t believe I could defeat her.”
That demonstrates her level of confidence in defeating him in a one-on-one bout. If he and Clark ever played one-on-one, it would be interesting to watch. There would be a lot of curiosity in witnessing whether a male player not in the NBA could defeat a current WNBA player in a 1-on-1 contest.
On Saturday, October 21, 2023, in Iowa City, at Kinnick Stadium, defensive back Cooper DeJean (3) of Iowa chases after a punt to prevent it from entering the end zone.
Whatever way you look at it, Caitlin Clark has improved women’s basketball by bringing a variety of perspectives to the table.
For that, a lot of people are grateful. In the meantime, DeJean wants to strengthen the Eagles’ secondary in his first NFL
