West Ham chief TIm Steidten held meetings with Paris Saint-Germain about signing Hugo Ekitike overnight

Writing on their official website (22 August), the FootMercato journalist reports that the two chiefs held positive meetings about a transfer, with the Hammers also holding talks with the player’s representatives.

Ekitike is said to be open to the move to the Premier League and is receptive to moving to West Ham, as David Moyes looks to replace Gianluca Scamacca.

“According to our information, a meeting took place between Luis Campos and the technical director of West Ham , Tim Steidten about the number 44 of PSG, author of 3 goals in 25 Ligue 1 appearances last year,” they wrote.

“A frank and very constructive discussion according to our information. The Hammers, who are looking for a striker, have the capacity to align themselves with the salary claims of the former Rémois but also with the amount of the transfer claimed by the club from the capital.

“In parallel with this discussion, the English club presented its game plan for Hugo Ekitike to the player’s representatives who were very receptive to West Ham’s speech. To be continued.”

Interesting

Ekitike was one of the players that the club and David Moyes were interested in signing last summer before he moved to the French capital instead, so the interest makes sense.

But he struggled while playing second fiddle to Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi and has now been made surplus to requirements by new manager Luis Enrique.

West Ham

There’s not any mention of a fee or whether it would be a loan transfer instead, but after losing Scamacca to Atalanta it’s very clear that a new forward is necessary for now.

Danny Ings hasn’t pulled up any trees since joining, while Michail Antonio is said to be open to leaving too although the club want a replacement first before they allow that.

This move would be a fun one and offer extra pace and versatility to the forward line, but with plenty of competition for his signature the club need to move quickly if they want it done.
