West Ham United are now targeting a deal for Montpellier forward Elye Wahi having opened talks to beat Chelsea.
Chelsea could miss out on Elye Wahi with West Ham United now strong pursuing a deal for the Montpellier striker.
That is according to TEAMtalk, who claim that West Ham have opened talks to bring Wahi to East London.
It’s stated that the Hammers are desperate to land a new striker having allowed Gianluca Scamacca to join Atalanta.
Wahi has become a key target and Get French Football News claim that the Hammers are planning a real push to sign him.
There is one problem emerging though and that’s the interest from French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Foot Mercato claim that PSG have made contact in the hope of signing Wahi this summer.
It’s stated PSG would love to sign Wahi whilst Tottenham Hotspur are ‘very hot’ on Wahi as they consider a striker signing.
West Ham won’t find this one easy and they will have to pull out all the stops to secure his signature.
Chelsea could now miss out on Elye Wahi
This rising interest in signing Wahi is pretty terrible news for Chelsea.
Fabrizio Romano reported at the end of July that Chelsea were ramping up their pursuit of Wahi.
L’Equipe reported last month that Chelsea had failed with a bid of around £23.5million with Montpellier holding out for more.
Chelsea also planned to send Wahi out on loan to partner club Strasbourg, which Wahi wasn’t entirely keen on.
The deal seems to have gone quiet with other clubs now moving in to try and beat the Blues to his signature.
Wahi, 20, hit 19 goals in 33 appearances for Montpellier last season and appears to have huge potential.
West Ham can give Wahi an immediate starting role, which may well appeal to Wahi more than joining Chelsea and heading straight back to France.
Tottenham are a threat too but West Ham will hope that first-team guarantees can help them win the race.
