Everson Griffen, a former Vikings DE, was arrested and is being charged with DUI
As per KSTP-TV’s Chris Long and Crystal Frasier in Minneapolis, former defensive end Everson Griffen of the Minnesota Vikings was taken into custody on Saturday in Chanhassen, Minnesota, on several DUI-related offences.
On Saturday afternoon, Griffen, 35, was arrested and charged with fourth-degree DUI, DUI, and DUI-Operate a Motor Vehicle above 0.08, all in the Carver County prison. Based on the prison roster, he was freed around one hour later.
The four-time Pro Bowler is currently a free agent after finishing his career with the Vikings in 2021.
At the pinnacle of his career, Griffen was a strong pass rusher, but in recent years, he has struggled with personal matters.
He reported that there was someone inside his residence in the early hours of November 2021 when he called the police. He posted pictures of himself with a pistol on social media, along with statements that claimed he was being targeted for murder.After they were able to persuade him that no one was attempting to break into his residence, the cops ultimately dragged him out.
In December of that year, Griffen disclosed his bipolar illness diagnosis and his efforts to become a mental health champion.
In 2018, Griffen had a mental health examination after the Vikings advised him to step away from the team and get assistance after a number of occurrences that caused the organisation to be concerned for him.
Eleven of Griffen’s twelve NFL seasons were spent with the Vikings. In 2020, he also played for the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys.
Over his career, he amassed 85.5 sacks, and in 2017, he was selected to the second team of the All-Pro team.
