This week, two former Vikings cornerbacks were taken into custody.
According to WBTV, Bashaud Breeland, who was a player for Minnesota in 2021 but has since left the league, was taken into custody in Charlotte on Tuesday and is expected to face several charges. The accused are charged with having a stolen car, having a Schedule I controlled narcotic, and having a stolen gun.
According to a police record connected to his detention, he was in possession of several firearms, including two AR-15s and two AK-47s, as well as a stolen Mercedes-Benz SUV. During a traffic check on Monday afternoon along North Graham Street, police seized the car and guns along with almost five pounds of marijuana, 62 grammes of suspected mushrooms, and narcotics paraphernalia.According to records, he posted a $30,000 bond and was freed a few hours after his detention.
In June 2021, Breeland, a former Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs, inked a contract with the Vikings. That season, he started 13 games but was cut loose in December following an argument with coaches and teammates.
The arrest of Fred Smoot in Virginia on Thursday was announced on Friday. The offence of “failure to comply with support responsibilities” is a misdemeanour. Smoot, 44, was a Vikings player from 2005 to 2006. In 2005, he was the focal point of the Vikings’ “Love Boat” scandal, which led to penalties and community service.
