According to journalist Dean Jones, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou may move to unleash a hidden Spurs potential this season.

The north Londoners brought in seven key signings during the summer transfer window of 2023 in order to strengthen Postecoglou’s ranks and to usher in the post-Antonio Conte era. Indeed, Spurs signed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, youthful centre-back Ashley Phillips, defender Micky van de Ven, midfielder James Maddison, winger Manor Solomon, gifted striker Alejo Veliz, and forward Brennan Johnson before the deadline.

Tottenham had to deal with the loss of star striker Harry Kane, who signed with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Sergio Reguilon, Joe Rodon, Djed Spence, Harry Winks, Alfie Devine, Troy Parrott, Dane Scarlett, Davinson Sanchez, and Tanguy Ndombele all left on temporary or permanent agreements after the 30-year-old.

Under Postecoglou, the Lilywhites have had an absolutely remarkable start to the season, winning four of their first five Premier League games and remaining unbeaten. Spurs are preparing for a crucial north London derby away to Arsenal this Sunday, and their opponents are in equally good form going into this highly exciting match.

Veliz, a highly-rated teenage signing from Argentine side Rosario Central, is one Spurs fan looking forward to seeing. The 20-year-old is yet to make his senior debut for Tottenham and may have to wait a while.

However, according to GiveMeSport reporter Jones, this might happen before the season ends, and Postecoglou could “unleash” Veliz.

“There is hope for a bright future for him in North London,” Jones wrote for GMS.”The 19-year-old moved from Argentina, where he was making moves with Rosario Central and impressing at the national team’s youth levels.”

“It is unclear how Spurs intend to develop him for the first team, but his debut appearance in the EFL Trophy, a 5-0 win over Colchester, was a promising start as he came off the bench and shown his strengths on and off the ball.

“He has been scouted by clubs such as Brighton and Rangers, and while they hesitated to commit to him, Spurs signed him because they see him as a player who can make an impact in the Premier League.” This first season is critical for bedding him and helping him comprehend exactly how he will do it. We’ll see him rarely before Christmas, but by the end of this campaign, he’ll be everywhere

Before joining Tottenham, the young South American had quite the reputation. Across the Atlantic, Veliz scored 19 goals and had two assists in 63 games for Rosario Central.

Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig described Veliz as a “talent” and a “complete forward” when assessing the player on X. In an interview with TUTTOmercatoWEB, 1978 Argentine World Cup winner Daniel Bertoni said of the player, “Congratulations to Tottenham, who took Alejo Veliz from Rosario Central.” [Veliz] is a phenomenon in my eyes.”
