Liverpool and Newcastle United are both interested in Kelly, according to 90Min.
Kelly had been a target for Liverpool since his time at Bristol City, and he joined Bournemouth in 2019.
Eddie Howe, who is now the manager of Newcastle United, was the manager of Bournemouth at the time.
It’s no surprise that Howe still likes Kelly after hailing him as ‘excellent’ back in 2020.
Liverpool and Newcastle might possibly make January offers for Kelly, while Bournemouth appears to be prepared for interest.
Lloyd Kelly is a good fit for Liverpool.
Even if long-term interest is excluded, Kelly checks all the boxes for Liverpool.
The 24-year-old has plenty of senior experience but still has untapped potential at his age.
Kelly is also a homegrown player, although his major draw will be as a left-sided defender.
Kelly has experience playing both a left back and a center back, and his versatility could be crucial for Jurgen Klopp.
Moving Trent Alexander-Arnold to midfield would ideally result in Liverpool’s left back moving inside to form a back three.
That isn’t the best usage of Andrew Robertson, so adding somebody like Kelly would make perfect sense if Klopp wants to continue with this Alexander-Arnold experiment.
Tottenham might potentially miss out.
Tottenham may be cursing themselves.
Kelly was a target for Tottenham in the last days of the transfer market, but Bournemouth just didn’t have time to find a replacement.
According to Alex Crook of TalkSPORT, a £20 million deal was rejected, and Tottenham then went completely silent after failing to submit a new bid.
If they had tried sooner, Kelly may still be a Tottenham player instead of becoming a top target for Liverpool and Newcastle.
Tottenham may return for Kelly in January, but they will now have to compete for his services
