£40M: TOTTENHAM WISHES TO REPLACE PLAYER IF HE LEAVES THE CLUB

Davinson Sanchez: Tottenham accept £13m bid as squad overhaul continues | Evening Standard

Tottenham Hotspur would want a replacement for Davinson Sanchez if they sold him before the transfer window closes.

According to The Athletic, Tottenham have rejected a £7.7m offer for Davinson Sanchez from Rennes.

However, the same outlet claims that Spurs would be willing to do business at around £17m and will then look to replace the central defender should their valuation for him actually be met.

They are set to make a loss on Sanchez after spending £40m on him back in 2017.

He is unlikely to see much game time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven being Ange Postecoglou’s preferred central defensive pairing right now.

Davinson Sanchez should push for a move away from Tottenham

Because of the above, Sanchez should be looking for a transfer before the market shuts if he wants to be a regular starter this term.

You would assume that is the case, especially after the previous campaign, where he barely played. In total, the Colombian made just eight starts in the Premier League.

Under Postecoglou, based on Spurs’ first few games so far, it is hard to imagine Sanchez’s situation getting any better.

Tottenham also failed to qualify for Europe last season, so there will be less opportunities for rotation in the current campaign.

All in all, then, it probably would be best for Sanchez to leave north London if Rennes come back in with another bid.

If not and no one else comes to the table, the Colombia international faces another season of being overlooked by his manager. Unless Romero or Van de Ven pick up a serious injury, he is likely to be Spurs’ third-choice centre-back this term. His future is certainly one to keep an eye on while the transfer window remains open.
