’10 GAMES TO BREAK INTO XI’: TOTTENHAM’S 22-YEAR-OLD SAYS HE WILL NOT BE STARTING SOON

After his deadline-day move to Tottenham Hotspur, Stephen Wornock believes Brennan Johnson will need ‘ten games’ to break into Ange Postecoglou’s first-team.

The 22-year-old has been added to Tottenham’s already prospering and courageous forward line, but Warnock believes there are just two positions he will be fighting for, and that is in the wide areas, as he told Sky Sports’ The Football Show.Leeds United look set to land former England defender Stephen Warnock | Football News | Sky Sports

With Son Heung-min scoring a hat-trick against Burnley last time out, no one expects the club captain to be dethroned anytime soon.

Brennan Johnson can play in the middle, but if he prefers either flank, he should play on the right channel.

The £48 million signing (Sky Sports) could fit in well at Tottenham because he has played Premier League football in Forest colours.

Furthermore, he is being introduced to a system in which any forward player in the world will simply enjoy playing.

Brennan Johnson is in a tough spot.

“He’s going to have to earn his place in the team, isn’t he?!” Warnock exclaimed. “It will be tough for him to gain entry. Will he be able to play on either side?

“He’s not going to remove Son from the position based on that performance.” Brennan Johnson may need ten games to break into this team and prove what he can do. It may require an injury to someone. One of the bigger names has slipped in form.

“However, I don’t see Brennan Johnson playing through the middle.” I see him in one of those broad stances.

“But it might get to the point where Ange Postecoglou goes ‘I am going to rotate them’, he is then keeping them fresh and hungry coming off the bench. Impact players. If I, as a fullback, have done 60 minutes against Kulusevski, the Brennan Johnson is coming on, I am thinking ‘where is the respite here?’”

Johnson is an intriguing prospect.

As Ian Wright stated before Johnson signed with Tottenham, the Wales international is ‘ideal’ for the club.

Even though Nottingham Forest were losing a significant role and someone who came through their academy, Serge Aurier was pleased to see him join Spurs.

Of course, Aurier played for the London club, but that shouldn’t obscure the fact that Johnson is one of Tottenham’s best purchases in recent years.
