Dennis Schroder was traded by the Toronto Raptors this week, and it might have been more of a divorce than anything else.

Prior to Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, the Raptors traded veteran guard Schroder. They traded him for another renowned guard and sent him to the Brooklyn Nets.

Sportsnet’s Michael Grange revealed following the transaction that Schröder had some obvious issues with the Raptors prior to the transfer. According to Grange, Schroder was not pleased with Toronto’s decision to demote him to the bench. According to Grange, Schroder joined the Raptors in the offseason with the intention of leading and starting for a postseason club.

After making 33 starts in the first 33 games of the season for the Raptors, the former first-round pick Schroder was benched when Immanuel Quickley arrived in the OG Anunoby trade with the New York Knicks.

Even though Schroder is a gifted player who just won MVP honors with his home country of Germany at the FIBA World Cup and averaged about 15 points and seven assists per game as a starter, his ineffective, ball-dominant habits are perhaps best suited for a second unit.

Schroder might not have many more opportunities with the Nets, another youthful squad that is future-oriented. However, he clearly has a high regard for himself and had previously voiced dissatisfaction about playing a reserve role in the NBA.
