Both in collegiate football and the NFL, Tennessee football has a long history. With four national titles and the induction of Hall of Famers into the league, the Vols have left a significant mark on American football history.
With their current NFL players, the Vols hope to create even more history. Tennessee is tied for the most quarterbacks in college football history with three active NFL quarterbacks.
Joe Milton, Hendon Hooker, and Joshua Dobbs are the three Tennessee quarterbacks in the league who are VFLs.
With the most active NFL quarterbacks, eight college football institutions share the top rank. The Vols are tied with North Carolina, North Dakota State, Oklahoma, Georgia, Houston, North Carolina, and Oregon.
The NFL quarterbacks for Tennessee are rather young. Since entering the league in 2018, Dobbs is the only quarterback with starting experience; however, Hooker and Milton are still in the early stages of their careers and are in competition for playing time.
Before Tennessee probably sends another quarterback into the NFL, it will be a few years. It appears that Nico Iamaleava of Tennessee will be the NFL’s next quarterback and that he could be the top pick in his draft class.
Though we will have to wait and see how Nico’s collegiate career unfolds before sending him to the NFL, we can anticipate three fantastic teams from the VFLs vying for quarterback playing time.
In 2024, Dobbs will back up Brock Purdy for the San Francisco 49ers after agreeing to a one-year, $2.25 million deal. As Jared Goff approaches the last year of his deal with the Detroit Lions, Hooker is getting ready for his second season as the team’s backup quarterback.
At last, Milton is ready to confront Drake Maye for playing time after recovering from his high after getting selected by the New England Patriots. Despite Maye being the second quarterback selected this year, Milton is seen as the dark horse for that position and has the potential to cause a stir during camp.
