After taking over a program that was declared dead in 2021, Heupel has gone 27-12 and guided the team to three consecutive bowl appearances.

The Vols are anticipated to contend for a national championship when the 2024 season begins. Although Georgia is probably going to be the favorite, Tennessee still has a good chance of making it to the 12-team college football playoff. Furthermore, you have a shot in this new era of college football merely by entering the dance.

Even though Heupel has defeated Dabo Swinney, Brian Kelly, and Nick Saban in the last three seasons, he was left off of 247Sports’ list of seven coaches who may win their first national championship in 2024.

Heupel was on the list of people who “did not make the cut.”

Heupel was left out in favor of names like Mike Norvell, Lane Kiffin, and Kalen DeBoer.

It is absurd to leave Heupel off that list. I’m not sure how they can leave Heupel off the list and include DeBoer, who hasn’t coached in the SEC since he lost most of the great players he acquired at Alabama to the transfer portal.

Furthermore, it seems foolish to choose Kiffin over Heupel only because of his gateway innovations. Culture is important. Ole Miss also lacks culture. Rather, they have a diverse roster of players from throughout the world who will need to get along in 2024. Although the roster of the Rebels is strong on paper, one should be aware that appearances can be deceiving. The 2023 New York Mets are a prime example of this.

Heupel is known to retain receipts. He must also be mindful of the excitement around other coaches.

That’s fantastic news for the Vols. Heupel’s teams appear to perform best when they are underdogs. With maybe the best quarterback in the country directing the offense, Tennessee has a strong squad going into the 2024 campaign. For the Vols next autumn, the sky is the limit. Heupel is undoubtedly eager to disprove his detractors.
