Player signed by Pittsburgh Steelers who hasn’t played in the NFL since 2017
Congratulations if your bingo card had Brad Wing among the many well-known NFL free agents who may have signed with a team this week, including Jarvis Landry, Carson Wentz, Leonard Fournette, and others.
After six years away from the NFL, Australian punter Wing, 32, has joined with the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad, the organization announced on Wednesday.
From 2014 to 2017, he participated in four NFL seasons. He began his career with the Steelers before being moved to the New York Giants, where he spent his last three seasons.
Following punter Pressley Harvin’s hamstring injury during the team’s week three victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, the Steelers signed Wing. Harvin did not take part in the Steelers’ practice on Thursday and “continues to be sidelined with a hamstring issue,” according to the team’s injury report, so it is uncertain how he will feel going into this weekend’s game against the Houston Texans.
Wing, an undrafted free agent out of LSU, joined the NFL in 2013. In May 2013, he signed a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, but the organization released him just before the regular season began in August. In 2014, he was chosen to be the punter for the Steelers.
Wing has punted 325 times for a 44.7-yard gross average and a 38.8-yard net average in 64 NFL games. Of those punts, 100 were within the 20-yard line.
