MLB. Juan Soto is on the Yankees’ radar and the Padres could be tempted to trade him away

The St. Louis Cardinals are looking to remake their pitching rotation for the 2024 MLB season after the legendary Adam Wainwright retired at the end of last season, this comes after the team had a dismal 2023 season overall.

The Redbirds had the fourth-worst ERA in the National League at 4.79 and had an overall ERA+ of 90 (considering that a value of 100 is always the average value) if the pitching staff needed to be strengthened.

Sonny Gray got his big millionaire contract

As announced by the Cards on Monday, right-handed starter Sonny Gray has signed with them to bolster their rotation heading into the 2024 season. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the deal is for three years and $75 million.

Sonny Gray had a good season in 2023, with a 2.79 ERA over 184 innings pitched in 32 starts, posting 183 strikeouts and 5.3 WAR, having led all of MLB in FIP with 2.83. Gray was also an All-Star selection last year and was 2nd in the American Cy Young voting.

Sonny Gray arrives to strenghten the Cardinals rotation

Meanwhile, the Cardinals finished last in the Central Division with a 71-91 record, struggling mightily in their first season in the post-Yadier Molina era.

Sonny Gray, who played for the Minnesota Twins the past two seasons, would join Miles Mikolas, Lance Lynn, Steven Matz and Kyle Gibson as the Cards’ potential rotation.
