West Brom: Caleb Taylor has received loan interest prior to the expiration of the transfer window.

West Brom defender Caleb Taylor may be the subject of loan interest before the end of the transfer window, according to Joseph Chapman.

The Birmingham Live journalist reported on Tuesday [15 August] that “there remains a chance” Taylor could be heading for a temporary Hawthorns exit.

Should that be the case, it is claimed that Albion may in turn explore the possibility of signing another defender before the window closes at 11pm on 1 September.

Overlooked

Academy product Taylor has made just four appearances for West Brom at senior level, and only one in the Championship – coming against Barnsley in May 2022.

The 20-year-old gained some experience out on loan at Cheltenham Town in League One last season, however, and started last week’s 2-1 loss at Stoke City in the first round of the EFL Cup.

Rather tellingly, however, Taylor has not been included in Carlos Corberan’s squad for the opening two league games of the season against Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City.

Corberan instead used 35-year-old Erik Pieters as part of a five-man defence for the 3-2 win against Swansea on Saturday [12 August], alongside Cedric Kipre and Semi Ajayi, who may head off on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Nigeria in January.

If Taylor is to be loaned out once again, it seems certain that Corberan will have to line up an alternative first so that his side are not left short as the season progresses.
