The Philadelphia Eagles’ poor 2023 campaign came to an end in the Super Wild Card stage as they were defeated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a score of 23 points. Philadelphia’s season ended with more questions than answers, despite promising beginnings.
With a hole in their offensive coordinator lineup and a plethora of free-agent choices, the Eagles now enter the offseason. After making it to the Super Bowl in 2022, Philadelphia has 19 free agents, and not all of them will return the following season as they try to find out what went wrong.
As the team retools for another postseason push in 2024, we’ll take a look at a few free agents that Eagles fans will be glad to see depart this offseason below.
1. Morrow, Nicholas
The linebacker group was badly missed by Philadelphia in the offseason with the departures of T.J. Edwards and Kyzir White via free agency.
The Eagles also failed with their plan to survive with Zach Cunningham, Nicholas Morrow, and Nakobe Dean. This season, Cunningham lost some time due to an injury, and Dean participated in five games before being placed on injured reserve.
The Eagles had to rely on Christian Elliss, Ben VanSumeren, Shaquille Leonard, and Morrow because Dean and Cunningham were out of time. This season, Morrow, 28, performed admirably in brief appearances. However, there were moments when he appeared to be totally confused in coverage after missing a tackle.
Granted, that wasn’t Morrow’s fault because senior defensive assistant Matt Patricia, not defensive coordinator Sean Desai, was given the responsibility for calling defensive plays by Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni.
The Philly defense looked terrible under Patricia’s play-calling duties, with numerous players playing out of place. Fans can anticipate a stronger defense now that Vic Fangio is the defensive coordinator.
Morrow finished the season with 95 total tackles, 12 stops for loss, five quarterback hits, five pass deflections, and two recovered fumbles. Being a terrific depth LB who can step up when needed, he’ll probably find work somewhere in the league.
Eagles supporters, on the other hand, would prefer that the team prioritize the LB position this season rather than having him or Leonard return.
