A school board member from Green Bay steps down in search of “a more… impactful role in effecting positive change.”
WBAY, Green Bay, Wisconsin The school system made the announcement on Monday that a member of the Green Bay school board had tendered her resignation over the weekend.
“After much consideration, I have determined I need to reallocate my time and energy to areas where I can have a more direct and impactful role in effecting positive change within our community,” Laura Laitinen-Warren wrote in a letter to the president of the school board (see the full letter here).
Laitinen-Warren held a four-year term on the school board. She had one year remaining in her term when she was formally elected to the board in April 2022.
The school board has had to deal with a significant budget deficit, requests to shut schools, and criticism and threats about the probe and resignation of Superintendent Claude Tiller Jr.
“We thank Laura for her time and dedication to the staff, students, and families in Green Bay Area Public Schools, and we wish her well in her future endeavors.” Laura McCoy, president of the school board, stated in a statement. “Laura has been a steadfast supporter of all children, and we have no doubt that she will keep working to bring about constructive change in our neighborhood.”
On March 4, the school board will convene in a special session to discuss the procedure for selecting a replacement for her seat, which will remain open until April 2025. After then, in a regular election, that individual may run for the seat.

Greetings, President McCoy
With immediate effect, I am writing to formally resign from my role as a trustee on the Green Bay Area Public School District’s board of education. After giving it some thought, I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to refocus my time and efforts in order to contribute in a more significant and direct way to the improvement of our community.
I am still steadfastly devoted to improving our educational system, which includes helping our hardworking teachers and, above all, making sure every child has access to a top-notch education.
I am appreciative of the connections I have made and the assistance I have gotten from the Green Bay community during my time here. I will never stop advocating for public education.
