After sackings at Elland Road and The Hawthorns, Carlos Corberan is slated for a ‘incoming’ Leeds United reunion at West Brom.

With West Brom and Leeds United both dispensing with the services of their goalkeeping coaches in quick succession Chris Lepkowski has suggested Marcos Abad could be”incoming” at The Hawthorns.

It emerged via The Sun’s Alan Nixon on Patreon Sunday morning (9 July) that Carlos Corberan is getting rid of Gary Walsh after three and a half years with the club.

That news came just four days after The Athletic had reported (5 July) Spaniard Abad was being let go from Leeds after the appointment of Daniel Farke as manager, leading former Birmingham Mail journalist Lepkowski to moot a reunion with Corberan at West Brom.
Reacting to the Walsh news on Twitter he wrote: “Marcus Abad incoming? I’ve never been sure about the Leeds keepers”.

Corberan spent three years at Elland Road while Abad, 37, was at the club, and had been heavily linked to the manager’s job himself prior to Farke’s appointment.
It isn’t hard to make the connection between Abad’s Leeds United exit and Walsh quickly being dispatched by Corberan as well.

As yet there is nothing confirmed but the familiarity between the two Spanish coaches make his arrival at The Hawthorns a possibility.

The Baggies have been through plenty of upheaval at the goalkeeper position with David Button, Alex Palmer and Josh Griffiths all getting a crack at the first team under Corberan. Two and two makes four?
But with Button, 34, losing his place last season and Nixon reporting via Patreon on 18 June that Griffiths, 21, is in line for a bid from high-flying Newcastle, there is more change afoot in the keeper’s room.

Leeds are in possession of one of the most hotly-tipped young keepers in the Premier League in Illan Meslier, but amid two seasons of struggle his star has fallen significantly, with the Frenchman losing his place last term to veteran Joel Robles as the Whites ended up conceding a league-worst 78 goals.

That is hardly a glowing endorsement of Abad if he is Baggies-bound, but most keepers would have struggled behind the Leeds defence of late, so Corberan may feel he is the man to oversee Palmer and company going forward.

In other West Brom news, the pipeline of talent out of the Albion to a rival is still in use as Fabrizio Romano reports another switch.
