The Hawthorns have judged the 34-year-old surplus to requirements, and he will be permitted to leave with a year left on his contract.

Button, who joined the Baggies from Brighton three years ago, missed Albion’s midweek friendlies against Cheltenham and Salford. Reading, who were demoted from the Championship last season, are among the clubs that have expressed interest in his talents, though no agreement has yet been reached.
