Potential Running Back Solution After Gus Edwards Heads to Chargers

The running back situation for the Baltimore Ravens is unclear, but may the team make a move now that Aaron Jones has been released by the Green Bay Packers?

As the NFL’s legal tampering period begins, free agent Gus Edwards will sign with the Los Angeles Chargers, causing a turnover in the running back room of the Baltimore Ravens.

The AFC leader in rushing touchdowns (13) for the Ravens, Jim Harbaugh, and the Chargers, will still be there.

What that means for J.K. Dobbins is unclear, but if supporters were feeling pessimistic about their running back position, the Green Bay Packers may have just given them a lifeline with Edwards being the first domino to fall.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Packers inked Josh Jacobs, a back with the Las Vegas Raiders, to a four-year, $48 million contract. Shortly after, veteran back Aaron Jones was cut.

Towards the conclusion of the season, Jones regained his rhythm again, despite the fact that he would only play 11 games in 2023 and have his lowest rushing total (656) since his rookie season in 2017.

Jones’ 118-yard, three-touchdown performance against the Dallas Cowboys in the WildCard Round was his highlight performance. Over the previous five games (including the postseason), Jones had more than 100 rushing yards in every contest.

With a market value of only $5.1 million, according to Spotrac.com, the veteran is now a free agent. Given their salary cap constraints, will the salary-cap-constrained Ravens try to sign him?

Jones (29), who would line up behind Lamar Jackson with Keaton Mitchell and Justice Hill, might be a very helpful addition to Todd Monken’s backfield.
