Raiders quarterback Derek Carr sends his teammates diamond pendants as a heartfelt farewell.
Derek Carr left the team on Thursday, announcing his resignation on social media after nine years: “It breaks my heart”
Derek Carr is bidding the Raiders farewell, and he’s leaving in style.
The veteran quarterback for the Las Vegas team made his exit official on Twitter on Tuesday, amidst rumors that the Raiders were considering dealing him. The 31-year-old Carr described his nine-year tenure with the Raiders, which began with the 2014 draft, as “a roller coaster.”
He tweeted the news and said, “Raider Nation, it breaks my heart that I didn’t get to say goodbye in person.” “It’s especially hard to say goodbye because I can honestly say that I gave you everything I had, every single day, in season and in the off season.”
The NFL great thanked Raiders fans for their years of support, saying he is “so grateful and appreciative of the years of support” that he and his family received while he was a player. “We had our share of both heart breaking moments and thrilling game-winning drives, and it always felt like you were there next to me,” he said.
Carr made sure to give his comrades a final nod of gratitude before leaving the Las Vegas club. Al The Jeweler, a jeweler in New Jersey, created bespoke diamond pendants for defensive end Maxx Crosby and wide receiver Devin Adams. The bejeweled pendants are fashioned after the jersey numbers of his colleagues, Adams (17) and Crosby (98).
Following the announcement, Crosby told the Las Vegas Review-Journal, “He’s done a lot of great things for this organization.” “He’s always worked hard, he’s always been a guy that has been positive and brought great juice to the locker room so I’ve got love for Derek and wish him the best for sure.”
For Adams, who had played with Carr at California State University in Fresno before the two got back together with the Raiders this season, the news was even more devastating. The 30-year-old Adams stated on Instagram that Carr is “the reason I’m a Raider” after their season concluded in December.
“This man gave everything that he had,” the writer stated. “One of the most disciplined and loving people I know.”
The encouraging message was posted after Carr was benched for the Raiders’ final two games in late December, which sparked rumors that he would either be traded or cut loose. Although Carr’s agent Tim Younger acknowledged in a tweet on Thursday that the quarterback’s “tenure with the Raiders effectively is finished,” the Raiders have not yet made an official move involving Carr.
The quarterback says he is devastated to be leaving, but he is focused on what lies ahead. He posted on Instagram, “That fire burning inside of me to win a championship still rages.” “I’m excited for a new city and a new squad that will always receive my all, no matter what. I’ve always wanted to win a championship, so I’ll keep working for it.”
