Nate Oats was born on October 5, 1974, in Watertown, Wisconsin. He grew up in a family of athletes and was introduced to basketball at a young age. Oats attended Watertown High School, where he played basketball and football.

Playing Career
Oats played college basketball at Maranatha Baptist University in Watertown, Wisconsin. He was a standout player and helped lead the team to a conference championship.
Coaching Career
Oats began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Maranatha Baptist University. He then moved on to become the head coach at Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he led the team to a conference championship.
*Buffalo Bulls (2015-2019)*
In 2015, Oats became the head coach at the University at Buffalo. During his four-year tenure, he led the Bulls to two NCAA Tournament appearances and won two MAC Tournament championships.
*Alabama Crimson Tide (2019-present)*
In 2019, Oats was hired as the head coach at the University of Alabama. In his first season, he led the Crimson Tide to a 16-15 record and a berth in the NIT. In the 2020-21 season, Oats led Alabama to a 26-7 record and an SEC Tournament championship.
