Despite winning their fourth straight series to begin the season, the New York Yankees were playing with house money even if they were unable to complete the sweep on Wednesday night. But in their last game against the Miami Marlins, they had a first.
Aaron Boone, the manager, was sent off for arguing balls and strikes! A Yankees fan’s annual favorite. Furthermore, he was clearly in the right.
Twice, he came close to starting a rally. In the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings, the Yankees came dangerously close to pulling it off, but Aaron Judge’s fly out and Gleyber Torres’ strikeout ended the rally.
Despite losing 5-2, the Yankees were able to take this victory home.
Yankees News: Updates on Tommy Kahnle’s injury, DJ LeMahieu, and Aaron Boone’s expulsion
However, the Yankees prevailed in their opening four series of the 2024 campaign despite the absence of several important and seasoned players who were anticipated to be essential members of a roster capable of winning a title. But if there aren’t any shocking injury discoveries, what good is an offseason for the Yankees?
Because of the greater worries about Gerrit Cole and Aaron Judge, these two in particular were a little neglected (plus the fact that they didn’t really contribute much last year or before that).
First, it was disclosed that reliever Tommy Kahnle was still expected to be sidelined until the beginning of 2024 due to a shoulder injury from the previous season (despite assurances from supporters that this wouldn’t be the case). However, it was expected, as a significant portion of Kahnle’s time in New York has regrettably been characterized by injuries.
Next up was DJ LeMahieu, who fouled a ball off his foot (how many times is this going to happen?). At first, they thought he was “OK,” but you knew that wouldn’t be the case. Due to his foot not healing as the medical staff had intended, LeMahieu was kept out of action. After that, he had an MRI. The team initially believed it to be a contusion but later discovered a non-displaced fracture.
Fortunately, the Yankees’ depth has allowed them to complete the task, so these two’s absences haven’t really been felt. However, there are plenty of things to look forward to now that they’re recovering.
Encouragement to follow Tommy Kahnle and DJ LeMahieu’s injury updates
LeMahieu was observed batting in Yankee Stadium prior to Wednesday’s series finale against the Miami Marlins, and manager Aaron Boone informed reporters that Kahnle would hold a bullpen session on Friday. However, it is still unknown when either will return.LeMahieu, who is stepping up his baseball activities, will also go on the upcoming road trip with the club.
These are significant updates for frequently injured veterans whose statuses have been concerning fans as anticipations for 2024 rise. The Yankees will be far better off if LeMahieu and Kahnle can play to some degree of their potential.
With Jonathan Loaisiga gone, the infield can move players around and give them more rest, and the bullpen can add another potent arm.
Sadly, the pessimist in us is waiting for one of these updates to be less positive than what some may be hoping for. While the Yankees’ players are recovering from injuries, there are often delays or setbacks.
For now, though, we’ll savor the ride the Yankees are now giving us and hope that LeMahieu and Kahnle return to their customary positions as soon as feasible.
