Negotiations between Werder Bremen and Leeds United for the transfer of midfielder Ilia Gruev are “advanced,” according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Sports News Germany journalist updated supporters on his personal Twitter page on August 30th, saying that the 23-year-old midfielder was interested in moving to Elland Road.
The transfer fee for the Bulgaria international could be up to £5.1 million, according to Plettenberg, who described the deal as “hot.”
While discussions for Gruev are not yet complete, talks between the two teams are well advanced, with only a few days left to complete the transfer.

The Whites appear to be on the verge of bringing in a central midfielder, and what a signing that could be. Gruev has been a member of Werder Bremen’s first-team setup since his debut in 2019 and made 31 appearances in the German top tier last season.
Despite being only 23 years old, he has much of experience at the top level of football, and this combination of youth and experience might be very valuable in the club’s fight for promotion from the Championship back into the Premier League.
Given how negotiations ended the last time they attempted to bring a midfielder over from Germany, fans can be forgiven for not getting their hopes up just yet, however it appears that a deal is now imminent.
With Friday’s deadline looming, time is running out for both parties to complete the deal.
