This deal is now official! Go get ‘em, Dane.

Dane Scarlett came on as a halftime replacement in Tottenham Hotspur’s League Cup penalty shootout loss to Fulham on Tuesday. While he didn’t exactly pull up any trees in his 45 minutes of action, he did show glimpses of why he’s been so highly regarded at Spurs in recent years, both in the academy and as a periphery member of the Spurs squad.

But there simply aren’t enough minutes to go around this season, and with Spurs already out of a cup, it makes sense for Dane to return on loan. According to The Athletic’s transfer tracker, he’ll be joining Championship side Ipswich for the season.

Scarlett has also signed a contract extension with the club that will keep him at Spurs through 2027.

On the surface, this appears to be a fantastic loan opportunity for Dane. Getting a Championship loan at the age of 19 is a huge feat, and it will hopefully allow Dane to get some serious minutes this season. Ipswich Town are new to the Championship, but they utterly destroyed League One last season, amassing a club record 98 points and finishing third by just three points. The Tractor Boys are unlikely to challenge for promotion to the Premier League this season, but they have a good chance of becoming a competitive team in the second division next season, and Scarlett has a potential to play a key role in that.

It’s not formally announced yet — we’ll post again when it is — but if this happens, it’s a positive development for Dane and for his future as a Spurs player. If he can take his chance with both hands.
