The just concluded transfer window saw a full-scale continuation of the purging of prospects with unrealized potential.

Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage, among others, permanently left the first team after spending a lengthy time on the periphery.

Axel Tuanzebe was the most notable of those not sold who were freed after their contracts ended.

The former captain of Manchester United has now formally committed to Ipswich Town on a one-year deal with a one-year extension option.

When his contract with United expires in July, he joins on a free transfer. He will re-establish contact with a “mini Manchester United” in Ipswich.

The manager is Kieran Mckenna, the highly-rated coach during his time at United, mainly with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Tuanzebe had his breakthrough performance against Paris Saint-Germain during that time, so Mckenna knows him well. Furthermore, he will also find his fellow United academy mate, Brandon Williams there.

Williams, unlike Tuanzebe, has a loan arrangement with Ipswich, but absent a spectacular turnaround in performance this year, his time at United appears to be up.

Williams and Tuanzebe, who went through the academy at the same time, made a strong first impression when they were promoted to the senior squad.

Particularly Tuanzebe shown such talent that he was once hailed as a potential United captain.

However, injuries and unsuccessful loan stints doomed him to obscurity, and his enormous potential has thus far gone unrealized.

He will look to regain the form that once made him the favorite of United managers at Ipswich and work with Williams to assist Mckenna’s squad get promoted to the Premier League.
