Grady Diangana was not present at West Brom’s training at St George’s Park as he continues to rehabilitate from an injury, despite transfer rumours tying him to a move elsewhere, according to Lewis Cox of the Express & Star.
On the subject of Diangana’s future with West Brom, rumors have been circulating. Nevertheless, Cox disclosed that the former West Ham winger was at St. George’s Park with the team as he continues to recover from an injury he sustained during the end of the last campaign.
Cox announced that Diangana was not training because he was receiving medical attention. Although it was said he is not very close to returning to training, there is no timetable for his return.
Speaking via the Express & Star youtube channel, Cox shared: “Grady Diangana wasn’t training. He was at St George’s Park getting some treatment. We didn’t get a time scale, but he’s not particularly close by the sounds of it.
“He’s continuing the rehab to the injury that kept him out of the back end of last season. We were told he’s worked unbelievably hard to try and speed up the process and try to get back.
“We did a report a couple of weeks ago about the potential interest in him so it was interesting that he wasn’t involved, but he’s stepping up that recovery and they’re hopeful he’s well ahead of schedule in that department.”
Regardless of what happens, he will need to be at full fitness
Irrespective of where Diangana’s future lies, be it at West Brom or elsewhere given the interest in him, he will need to be at full fitness. Clubs will not want to sign a player with an injury when they don’t know how long he could miss or the potential issues around it.
West Brom are supposedly keen on selling Diangana as they turn to player sales to help balance the books during a financial crisis at the club, and will want to make sure they get the most out of any deal for his exit.
Should the winger remain at the Hawthorns this season, which is entirely possible if the clubs don’t step up their reported interest, Carlos Corberan is sure to be keen on his players getting a full pre-season, at least as long as possible, to step up their fitness ahead of the Championship campaign.
Newly-relegated sides were linked with moves for Diangana recently [Leicester Live, 5 July], although nothing seems to have materialised yet.
