‘Farcical’ Carlos Corberan rule block surfaces in West Brom news

According to writer Joe Chapman, West Brom manager Carlos Corberan did not participate in post-match media responsibilities following his dismissal when FA disciplinary guidelines were modified.Carlos Corberan: Huddersfield Town approach Leeds United assistant to be next boss - BBC Sport

On 5 August, the Birmingham Live journalist announced the FA rule change on his personal Twitter account, calling it “farcical” as new Baggies captain Jed Wallace took the manager’s position in front of the media.

If a non-playing player is taken from the technical area, as Corberan was, they are not permitted to participate in post-match media commitments, including both external and internal media, on the day of the match.

A bizarre turn of events

After being sent off by the referee during the game, one would anticipate Corberan to justify the decision or his own behavior to the media, as he always did thereafter. A change in the disciplinary regulations seemed out of place, affecting only the waiting media and fans.

While the purpose may be to safeguard referees from abuse, Corberan is unlikely to speak to the media maliciously or risk being penalised himself. However, his removal remains unexplained and unmentioned.Ex-Leeds United coach set for return to English football after ill-fated stint abroad | Yorkshire Evening Post

Not only is the manager barred from explaining his dismissal, but he is also barred from explaining in-game decisions, selections, style of play, and other potentially helpful and exciting information that journalists and fans frequently look forward to after the game.

Corberan will now have to face his side and prepare for their next game, after suffering a disheartening defeat at Ewood Park on the opening day of the season, in what was ultimately an unlucky loss after conceding two early goals.
