When confirming Sergio Busquets arrival to Inter Miami, MLS made an unfortunate error by posting a photo of his ex-Spain teammate Alvaro Arbeloa.
The MLS made a tremendous mistake with Busquets’ declaration.
By mistake, a photograph of Alvaro Arbeloa was utilized.
Busquets has signed a contract extension with Inter Miami until 2025.
WHAT OCCURED? The official MLS Twitter account accidentally shared a photo of Arbeloa kissing the World Cup trophy in 2010 instead of a photo of former Barcelona player Busquets. The original image was subsequently deleted and replaced with a photo of Busquets from Spain’s spectacular night in South Africa, but social media users were quick to capitalize on the incident.
THE BIGGER PICTURE: Following former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi to Miami, Busquets is one of the best players to join MLS. That didn’t stop him from being confused for his former international teammate, a gaffe that the league may find tough to forgive.
WHAT COMES NEXT FOR BUSQUETS? The 35-year-old midfielder has agreed to terms with Inter Miami until 2025, and he will be joined by two more former Barcelona teammates, Jordi Alba and Andres Iniesta, in the near future. With Inter Miami’s next MLS encounter not until August 21, Busquets and Messi might make their Leagues Cup debuts against Cruz Azul on July 21.
