Captain Alex Woodyard of AFC Wimbledon joins the ranks of York City

YORK City has confirmed the addition of midfielder Alex Woodward as their 13th summer signing.

Woodyard, who operates in central midfield, joins the club with a vast range of experience in the EFL.

The 30-year-old joins the club after his contract with Sky Bet League Two side AFC Wimbledon was cancelled by mutual consent, after previously captaining the Dons.

Woodyard made 34 appearances for AFC Wimbledon last season and won their Players’ Player of the season award in 2022.

He’s also had previous experience of playing in the Vanarama National League, after gaining promotion with Lincoln City in the 2016/17 season and helping guide the club to the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final.

Woodyard also had previous spells with Lincoln City and Peterborough United before his move to AFC Wimbledon in 2020.

The midfielder joins the club on a two-year deal.

Speaking on his move to the club, Woodyard said: “It was a fairly easy decision.

“The club looks like its really going in the right direction and it will be a great time to get on board.

“I’ve won this league before with Lincoln City and I know what it takes to be successful at this level. I feel my experience can bring a lot to the side.”
