Caitlin Clark Soars to New Heights: Nike’s Unique Tribute to an NCAA Scoring Queen

In summary, Iowa standout Caitlin Clark has accomplished everything she set out to do during her collegiate career.

On February 15, the Hawkeyes guard shattered the NCAA Division I women’s all-time scoring record held by Kelsey Plum.

Regardless of gender, she has now also shattered Pete Maravich’s illusive all-time Division I scoring record. Additionally, in a way that has supporters going bonkers, Nike, who presently sponsors Clark, honored both the accomplishment and her amazing college career.

The massive sportswear retailer temporarily displayed a banner on the exterior of a building in Iowa City. That isn’t special on its own. However, the distinct banner they had hanging across the street was different.

In the first banner, Clark is seen making a 3-pointer. In the other, the phrase “this was never a long shot” is scrawled on a hoop.

The campaign is quite distinctive, and fans couldn’t stop talking about it.

One admirer tweeted, “Nobody does campaigns like Nike; that’s where other brands will never catch up.”

“More than any other medium, OOH advertisements that deftly use the physical surroundings, like this one, still make me think, ‘dโ€”, that’s clever. And in my opinion, it does raise brand favorability,” added another.

At the break, right after Clark eclipsed Maravich’s record, Nike also aired an ad honoring her incredible career.

The amazing list of Clark’s accomplishments is enumerated by an announcer in the advertisement.

Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and “many last-name accolades”
All-American First Team three times
All-Conference First Team three times
“And your new all-time NCAA top scorer,” according to the 10-time “won’t miss” leader and current “Even More Outstanding” player.

Now that she has accomplished everything on her own record, the (very likely) first overall pick in the WNBA Draft will turn her attention to another objective.

The LSU Tigers defeated the Hawkeyes in the NCAA Tournament the previous year. They’ll try harder this time and perhaps send Clark home victorious.
