Burnley are hoping to clinch a low-cost signing of Ian Maatsen this summer.

According to a report from The Sun, Ian Maatsen could leave Chelsea permanently this summer. And newly-promoted Premier League club Burnley hope to secure a cut-price £10 million deal to land the 21-year-old wide man.

Maatsen was on loan at Burnley last season, and he was quite impressive for them. He scored four goals across all competitions. The 21-year-old needs to move on in search of regular playing time, and a move to Burnley would be ideal. Chelsea will not be able to provide him with regular first-team opportunities.

The 21-year-old wide man can operate as a winger as well, and his versatility will be an added bonus for Burnley and Vincent Kompany. Burnley managed to win the Championship last season, and they were quite impressive with their performances. Their free-flowing attacking football was an instant hit with the fans, and signing Maatsen will certainly help Burnley continue to play that way.

Chelsea will not want to lose a prodigious young talent like Maatsen. But they are powerless to stop him from leaving. The 21-year-old needs to focus on his development at this stage of his career, and sitting on the pitch at Chelsea is unlikely to benefit him.

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino already has Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella on his squad. As a result, it appears unlikely that the Argentine boss will be able to provide the gifted young defender ample opportunity.

Maatsen has the potential to fulfill his potential and establish himself as a vital player for a major team in the coming seasons. The 21-year-old Chelsea prospect has a bright future ahead of him, and he might be a crucial player for Burnley this season.

If the newly-promoted club can sign him for a reasonable price this summer, the move could look like a bargain. Burnley will not only look to do well in the Premier League next season, they will hope to entertain with their attacking football. Players like Maatsen will certainly make a big difference in the final third.
