Transfer tracker for Tennessee football: Who is using the portal to leave the Vols?
Some Tennessee football players have accessed the open transfer site.
For the majority of clubs, the early portal window has ended. Players can re-enter between April 16 and 30.
This is a list of Tennessee’s 2023 team members who have accessed the portal, with the most recent announcements displayed first.
Gerald Mincey, an offensive tackle from Kentucky
Gerald Mincey is moving to the state of Kentucky. Three days after starting in the UT team’s victory over Iowa in the Citrus Bowl, the 6-6, 337-pound player registered on the portal on January 4. Mincey made seven starts during the 2023 campaign.
In his two seasons with the Vols, Mincey has started 14 games out of 22 while playing both left and right tackle. He played for Florida in 2020 and 2021.
Security Louisville native Wesley Walker
Louisville will be receiving Wesley Walker. On December 22, the 200-pound, 6-1 player entered the gateway. He was a star player at Nashville’s Ensworth in the past. He transferred from Georgia Tech and played for UT for the previous two seasons. With 12 starts, he has participated in 23 games with the Vols.
Walker started 10 straight games at safety in 2023 before missing the last two because of an injury. He recorded 53 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, and 3.5 tackles for loss.
Tamarion McDonald, a defensive back from Louisville,
Tamarion McDonald is moving to Louisville in order to attend Ole Miss initially. Throughout his UT career, the 6-2, 208-pound player started 25 of 43 games. He mostly filled the role of Star, or what UT refers to as its nickelback.
McDonald recorded 40 stops, 3.5 tackles for loss, one interception, and four pass breakups in 2023. He has a COVID-exempt year, meaning he is eligible for one more season.
De’Shawn Rucker, cornerback (USF)
Over three seasons at UT, 6-foot-190-pound player De’Shawn Rucker played 24 games with two starts. Due to his 2023 redshirt, he still has two years left of eligibility. Throughout his career, he has made 14 tackles, primarily on special teams.
Doneiko Slaughter, a defensive defender from Arkansas
Doneiko Slaughter is going to Arkansas for her transfer. During his time at UT, the 6-foot, 190-pound player started 15 of 43 games. He has a COVID-exempt year, meaning he is eligible for one more season.
Slaughter is a defensive back with versatility. For the Vols, he played safety, nickelback, and cornerback. In ten games in 2023, he recorded 32 tackles, one tackle for loss, and one interception. Against Georgia, he recorded a career-high 10 tackles.
Tyler Baron, a defensive end from Louisville
After first committing to Ole Miss, Tyler Baron is transferring to Louisville. One of the best pass rushers in the SEC was the 6-5, 260-pound player. He recorded six sacks, five quarterback hurries, one recovered fumble that was returned for a touchdown, and 10.5 tackles for loss. He has made 19 starts and totaled 102 tackles in 48 games during his career.
Baron’s COVID-exempt year allows him to play in just one more season. He might try to get into the NFL Draft. Baron signed up for the transfer site in January 2022, but he left a day later.
Tennessee State offensive lineman Connor Meadows
The 6-4, 297-pound Connor Meadows had committed to UT Martin before deciding to walk-on at Tennessee. He played in two games in 2023 while spending the two seasons with the Vols.
Addison Nichols, an offensive lineman from Arkansas
Six-five and 327 pounds, Addison Nichols was regarded as a four-star prospect and the top offensive recruit in UT’s 2022 class. Mostly on special teams, he participated in two games in 2022 and twelve games in 2023. He is still eligible for three seasons.
Nichols was never comfortable on the offensive line for UT. In high school, he was a highly-touted tackle. He was switched to center by UT, but the team did not look to him when Cooper Mays, the starting center, missed four games with an injury. Although Nichols was most comfortable playing at guard, he was not selected to start in that position either.
Brandon Turnage, a defensive back from Ole Miss
Brandon Turnage is going to Ole Miss for his transfer. The 180-pound, 6-1 player has one more season of eligibility due to a year that is exempt from COVID. After playing for Tennessee (2021–2023) and Alabama (2019–20), he is now searching for a third school.
Turnage played 31 games at UT, starting six of them at nickelback and cornerback. He was in and out of the cornerback rotation in 2023, appearing in 12 games with nine tackles and one pass breakup.
Security Ariz. Jack Luttrell
In his first season in 2023, 6-foot-1, 180-pound player Jack Luttrell participated in three special teams games. The first signee in UT’s 2023 signing class, the former three-star prospect picked the Vols over Texas A&M, Notre Dame, and Arkansas.
The transfer of Warren Burrell is to Georgia Tech. Over five seasons, the 6-foot, 190-pound player participated in 41 games for UT, making 22 starts. This season, he participated in ten games and finished with eight tackles, one interception, and one fumble recovery.
Burrell was injured in the second game of the season, terminating his career, and was given a medical redshirt in 2022. He has a COVID-exempt year, meaning he is eligible for one more season.
Mo Clipper, an offensive lineman from Charlotte,
Moving to Charlotte is Mo Clipper. In the 2022 recruiting class, the 6-5, 308-pound player was rated as a three-star talent. Georgia, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Alabama, and UT were his top choices. Over the course of two seasons at UT, Clipper appeared in three games, primarily as an offensive guard and on special teams.
