Sean McVay, the coach of the Los Angeles Rams, has assured the team that he will be back in 2024.

Nearing the second anniversary of his Super Bowl victory, McVay, 37, is in his seventh season as the team’s coach. With one game remaining in the regular season, McVay has the team back in the postseason after they were eliminated as the defending champs and secured a wild-card slot instead.

However, it was far from guaranteed at the beginning of January of last year that McVay would remain sidelined in southern California. Speaking to the media after the final regular-season game, he expressed uncertainty regarding his future as a coach.

In the end, the team announced he would be remaining four days later. The New York Post claims that Amazon Prime Video previously made him an offer to work as a game analyst for “Thursday Night Football” worth up to $100 million spread over five years.

At the time, McVay made it clear to ESPN that he was not looking for any broadcast chances. Even yet, midway through the previous season, an unidentified NFL executive told The Athletic that they believed he “goes to Amazon for a bajillion dollars.”

In the twelve months that have passed, that scenario has not yet materialized, and McVay has committed to the franchise for a minimum of one more season. Before the playoffs begin, the coach has taken steps to reassure supporters.

Coach McVay assures the Rams that he will return for the upcoming campaign.

He was questioned about if the team’s podcast will continue the next season when appearing on the “Coach McVay Show.” That’s something McVay made very obvious.

Along with Rams general manager Les Snead, the coach inked a contract extension in September 2022 that will last through the 2026 campaign. With an average yearly pay of $15 million, McVay is now tied with Pete Carroll of the Seattle Seahawks for the fourth-highest income of any US sports coach.

According to Sportico, the only other NFL players with higher salaries are Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots ($25 million) and Sean Payton of the Denver Broncos ($18 million). The only non-football coach in their top five is Gregg Popovich, the sixteen-million dollar, five-time NBA champion coach of the San Antonio Spurs.

McVay has openly discussed a career in broadcasting in the past, even if he is now on that bumper deal. He gave the following justification in March 2022 for declining the chance to work for Amazon: “Just the timing and everything that surrounds it, it’s very flattering.” It humbles me, he said to reporters.

“I’m fully committed to coaching, but it wouldn’t be accurate to say that [broadcasting] is not something I’m very intrigued by down the line.”

“The depth of [the negotiations] is something you kind of want to keep behind the scenes,” McVay continued. The game has always captivated me. It’s a great way to stay in touch, but there are plenty of ways you’re not completely linked that make you happy.
