Three hours after wishing the athlete a happy birthday, the Green Bay Packers cruelly cut him.
Only hours after the Green Bay Packers’ Twitter account wished Jonathan Garvin a happy birthday, head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed Garvin’s release.
A few hours after wishing one of their players a happy birthday, the Green Bay Packers released him.
Released from the roster, Jonathan Garvin was getting ready for his fourth NFL season with the Packers. Head coach Matt LaFleur made the announcement on Friday at a press conference. 2020 saw the seventh round draft of Garvin, who was selected with the 242nd overall pick. Before this off-season, the linebacker has been a consistent member of the Packers defense.
The Packers wished Garvin a happy birthday on Twitter earlier on Friday. The message on Twitter said, “Happy birthday! #SmileLikeAPro. Later, ESPN revealed that Garven had been let go by the Packers. Additionally, it was stated that the 24-year-old had not participated in the majority of the off-season training regimen, which started in May with the scheduled team activities.
For the first time in almost 20 years, the Packers and LaFleur are getting ready for a season without Aaron Rodgers as their star quarterback. Just a few days before the 2023 NFL Draft in April, Rodgers’ 18-year career in Wisconsin came to an end when he was traded to the New York Jets.
Not only has Aaron Rodgers departed the team over the off-season, but he’s not the only one that went to the Jets. Along with the 39-year-old, wide receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb as well as safety Adrian Amos have relocated to MetLife Stadium.
After Mike McCarthy left the team in 2019, LaFleur took over as head coach and is getting ready for his fifth season in command of the Packers. Although he has led the team to three play-off runs and two trips to the NFC Championship game, he has not been able to win any of them.
Nonetheless, last season was disappointing as it ended up being Rodgers’ last with the team. For the first time since 2018, the Packers (8-9) did not make it to the postseason, placing third in the NFC North. Training camp will now start up in preparation for a hectic preseason program. Entering the 2023 regular season, Jordan Love is anticipated to be the starting quarterback for the Packers.
The New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, and Cincinnati Bengals are the three friendly opponents the Packers will face during the preseason. All of it will serve as preparation for the team’s Week 1 matchup on September 10 against the Chicago Bears, division rivals in the NFC North.
