Eagles announce coaching staff hires and promotions

The Eagles revealed the following updates on Head Coach Nick Sirianni’s staff for the 2023 campaign on Thursday:

Advancements

Now serving as the team’s defensive backs coach is D.K. McDonald.

McDonald, who was brought on as the Eagles’ assistant defensive backs coach in 2021, assisted the team in finishing as the league’s top pass defence last season—allowing only 179.8 passing yards per game—and as the second-best defence overall in terms of yards allowed (301.5). Being the only starting cornerback tandem to record more than three interceptions and more than fourteen pass deflections combined, James Bradberry (All-Pro) and Darius Slay (Pro Bowl) were recognised individually for their exceptional seasons.

As of right now, Associate Head Coach and Pass Game Coordinator Kevin Patullo

Over the previous two seasons, Patullo oversaw the passing game for the team. He contributed to a passing attack that was second in the league in receiving average and aided in the development of quarterback Jalen Hurts, an MVP candidate who was third in the league in yards per attempt (8.0) and passer rating (101.5). Since coming to Philadelphia, Patullo has played a significant part in helping Sirianni in a variety of ways, both on and off the pitch.

The team’s assistant linebackers coach right now is Tyler Scudder.

Scudder, who joined Sirianni’s staff in 2021 as a coaches assistant before being promoted to defensive assistant last season, is receiving his second promotion in as many seasons. With 70 sacks in 2022, the Eagles broke the franchise record for a single season and made history by being the first team to have four separate players record 10 or more sacks.

Extras

The team’s new defensive quality control coach is Mike DiAngelo.

DiAngelo most recently worked as Jacksonville State’s tight ends and receivers coach. Prior to that, he spent six seasons in a number of capacities at Washington & Jefferson College. Mike, Sirianni’s brother, is Washington & Jefferson’s head coach.

The team’s new assistant defensive backs coach is Taver Johnson.

Johnson, a former Temple defensive coordinator, spent the previous season as Eastern Michigan’s safeties coach and defensive pass game coordinator. As the assistant defensive backs coach with the Las Vegas Raiders, he has NFL experience.

Ronell Williams is the new Nickels Coach for the group.

Williams, a Division II All-American linebacker and Chester, Pennsylvania native, was a four-year letterman at West Chester University before joining the Chicago Bears as the new defensive coordinator under Sean Desai. The Eagles will have a new player in this role for the first time.

The team’s assistant to the head coach is Tyler Yelk.

As a player and coach at Minnesota-Duluth, where he finished as the school’s all-time leader in tackles, Yelk earned a National Championship. One of Yelk’s stops was at Temple on Broad Street, where he was a coach for nickels and safeties. Most recently, he was Idaho’s safeties coach.
