Details of Russ Francis’s Death Are Uncovered from the New England Patriots’ Former Plane Crash
Russ Francis, the former NFL star and standout for the New England Patriots who won a Super Bowl with the San Francisco 49ers, passed away last weekend in a plane crash at the age of 70 along with another passenger.
Furthermore, information regarding the accident—which happened in the state of New York—is now starting to surface.According to a federal investigation, the aircraft lost power not long after takeoff, and it was then turned around in an effort to make a safe landing. Unfortunately, the plane followed that route and ended up falling into a ravine approximately thirty feet below when it struck a high bank near the end of the runway.
Francis was selected by the Patriots in the first round after excelling as a college player at the University of Oregon. With three straight seasons of selection to the Pro Bowl, he was a standout in New England.
After the 1980 season, he left the team, but he returned to the NFL in 1982 to play for the San Francisco 49ers after taking a one-year hiatus.
The tight end made football history while he was in San Francisco, catching five passes for 60 yards in the team’s Super Bowl triumph over the Miami Dolphins.
In a Facebook post following his brother’s passing, Ed Francis said, “Needless to say, my family and I are absolutely devastated.” My brother had always loved to fly, so it seemed like a natural way for him to depart away. God bless you, big brother…
