Breaking News: Green Bay Packers Head Coach Just Announced His Departure In……..

GettyThe head coach of the Green Bay Packers, Matt LaFleur, has a new opening on his coaching staff.

After a disastrous 2022 season, the Green Bay Packers did not announce any firings on their coaching staff; but, head coach Matt LaFleur will still need to fill at least one position this offseason.

The Atlanta Falcons brought in Ryan Nielsen as their new defensive coordinator this summer after losing veteran coordinator Dean Pees to retirement. Although Jerry Grey, the defensive backs coach for the Packers, was not selected for the coordinator position, the Falcons continued to pursue the seasoned DB coach.

On Saturday, January 28, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that the Falcons were closing close on a contract that would add Grey to their defensive line for the 2023 campaign. Grey had previously served as Washington’s assistant coach in 2007 and 2008 alongside Falcons head coach Arthur Smith.

Grey had an amazing playing career that includes four Pro Bowls and two choices to the second team of the All-Pro team. He has been coaching defences and defensive backs for about thirty years. He will now have the chance to assist in turning around the faltering Falcons team.

Most recent coaching news for the Packers

Although supporters of the Packers demanded that defensive coordinator Joe Barry be fired, it was Grey who ultimately departed to pursue a chance with a different team. However, Matt LaFleur’s assistants have had plenty to discuss, even though there hasn’t been much turnover on Green Bay’s coaching staff.

After the team’s loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 18, LaFleur was questioned about possible coaching staff changes for the upcoming campaign. In addition to keeping his defensive coordinator, the head coach of the Packers made it plain that he didn’t see any coaching changes, so Barry will be around for at least another season.

Nevertheless, there had been some discussion about Green Bay expanding their offensive staff by hiring a new coach. LaFleur had expressed interest in reuniting with the former Broncos head coach, Nathaniel Hackett, the offensive coordinator. But Hackett was able to seize another chance soon after, taking a position as offensive coordinator with the New York Jets.

When LaFleur’s brother Mike LaFleur left the Jets, further rumours started to circulate. Even the younger LaFleur was mentioned as a possible successor to Adam Stenavich, the offensive coordinator at the moment. Rather, he is moving to Los Angeles to work as a coach for the Rams under Sean McVay.

Although there haven’t been many coaching staff changes this offseason, LaFleur will now need to find a defensive replacement for Grey.

2023 QB for Green Bay: Who Will It Be?

The coaching staff in Green Bay hasn’t changed much, but in 2023 a different person might lead the team.

Next year, Aaron Rodgers will turn 40 years old, and with the 2022 season coming to a poor conclusion, there is a lot of concern around his future. With Jordan Love at quarterback, the Packers are expected to announce their decision to move the four-time MVP and start a new chapter in the team’s history.

A number of teams, most notably the New York Jets, who recently recruited Rodgers’ former offensive coordinator Hackett, have been linked to the player in a possible trade. The Packers will probably receive offers from other clubs, so the Jets could have to make more sacrifices than they’d like in order to get the future Hall of Famer.

It appears more and more likely that Love will get his chance to start in 2023, regardless of where Rodgers ends up.
