“Insanity”: Urban Meyer on Jim Harbaugh’s suspension and the Michigan sign-stealing incident

Former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer had only one response when questioned about Jim Harbaugh’s suspension on Friday and the events of the previous 24 hours involving Michigan football: “Insanity.”

Meyer declared, “This is insanity,” during FOX’s “Big Noon Kickoff.” “Two teams are competing for a conference title and possibly a national title. Eight miles is your head coach’s distance. It wouldn’t be impossible for them to parachute in during the first quarter and chopper in. It’s insane.”

Sherrone Moore, the offensive line coach and coordinator for the Michigan offense, was named the team’s interim head coach in the hours before kickoff against the Nittany Lions.

According to ESPN, Moore will coach the team against Penn State and there won’t be a decision on Harbaugh’s temporary restraining order today.

With regard to Michigan’s alleged “sign-stealing scheme,” Meyer claimed he had “never heard of that” in his time as head coach.

“People have said things like, ‘Everyone does it.'” In my entire career, I’ve never heard of that,” Meyer remarked.

Meyer said that he thought the football program had been “unusual” and that Santa Ono, the president of Michigan, and the administration had shown Harbaugh “loyalty.”

However, Meyer believes Michigan would have a significant advantage over Penn State on Saturday.

Massive benefit, Wolverines. Magnificent,” Meyer remarked. Everyone aspires to lead a team that is furious. A frustrated squad. Are you familiar with the Wolverines? That’s them. They intend to engage in playful behavior involving both motivation and rage. With that squad, I have some concerns about the Nittany Lions.”

When Meyer was coaching at Ohio State, he had a perfect 4-0 record versus Harbaugh.
